What problem are we addressing? Globally, 1.3 billion people lack access to electricity, an estimated 84% of whom live in rural areas. Approximately $40bn per year is spent on fuel-based lighting alone. Electricity is a critical enabler of economic development and improved health and education, with annual welfare benefits of $600 per household.
